If the weight of the square block is chosen to match, this could be a rather expressive and sensitive hack. I have tried that with an old square-shaped copper CPU cooler and the pressure sensitivity of the four pads seems to be in a rather workable range! Why not put a massive square of heavy wood or steel on four pads, shape the bottom so it fits the pads and won't slip away and then calculate the respective CC messages from reading the aftertouch messages from the four different pads. Now the Touché basically sends absolute MIDI CC data from pressure four different directions: Upper, lower, left and right.
